An E.B. White kind of day

I'll always remember Virginia October as a sunny-mellow day when the air was fresh and the clover patches still warm, when Madison's hair was the color of ripe hay and Ella's the color of ripe straw, and my golden girls jumped from bale to bale, silhouetted against the Blue Ridge Mountains and an even bluer sky.
