On the winter solstice, and for the purpose of having just one more thing to celebrate because why not, we Rosses have a little Lightbulb Day party: We celebrate how reason has led to innovation, achievement, and well-being. We give technologically-laiden gifts. We whack a Lightbulb Day piñata. We talk about how life used to be before the Industrial Revolution. We talk about how, someday, the girls' children's children will marvel that their ancestors lived in an age before they had eradicated common stomach viruses.

This year, Max and Henry and their parents are joining us for Lightbulb Day. The girls are counting the days until they arrive.
And, today, they're making the piñata (the easiest piñata ever--blow up a balloon, cover it with gunk and newspaper, let dry, pop balloon, paint yellow). Hope it doesn't implode like the one for Madison's birthday (a Golden Snitch, looking suspiciously EXACTLY like a light bulb) did.
