It's not fair to compare, but I'm still proud

On Friday, my daughters got up, had their piano lesson, did schoolwork, and went to karate class.

On Friday, my colleague Steve's son Dan got up and saved a man's life.

It was his first rescue as a New York City firefighter.

I'm glad there are people in the world like Dan, who make being a hero their profession.

And it reminds me that it's my job as a parent to raise children who, if the time called for it, would rise to the occasion to be a hero if necessary.
