Frank Lloyd Wright, who is arguably America's most famous architect, was born June 8, 1867 in Richland Center, Wisconsin, an agricultural town. His most famous design style is probably the "prairie style," which is characterized by horizontal lines, flat roofs with broad overhanging eaves, solid construction, craftsmanship, and an open plan, as opposed to the more florid styles of the 19th century. Wright was associated with Louis Sullivan, another of America's most famous architects, early in his career. His most famous private residence is Falling Water, in Bear Run, Pennsylvania.
