Yesterday's Birthday of the Day was Thomas Young, the 18th-century scientist and mathematician who invented Young's Modulus, a measure of stiffness/elasticity. (In a family where the dad is an industrial mathematician, one actually hears about Young's Modulus quite often.)
David often does the Birthday of the Day while I am getting ready for the day. This was the case yesterday. I was upstairs.
"Young's family were Quakers," he said. "Do you know someone who went to a university whose mascot is a Quaker?"
I went to the University of Pennsylvania. We always called our football team "The Oxymoronic Fighting Quakers." But I guess the girls didn't know that Penn's mascot is a Quaker. They looked at him blankly.
David gave them a hint: He pointed upward.
Still no response. Then, Ella ventured a guess: "Jesus?"
