I just love this idea from Mrs. Hannigan's blog: Have a magic invisible rewind remote control device floating somewhere near you, which you can pluck out of the air at any moment, point at the children, and direct them to rewind and try that more time, this time properly. She swears it works:

Update: It just worked with Ella. Just after lunch, it was time to start looking at the patterns in the 7 times table and she started moaning about it. "Wait!" I said, pulling the rewind device out of the air. I pointed it at her and said, "Rewind!" and made that sound that you always associate with rewinding but which is not reproducible on screen... and she giggled and tried a better response.

I've heard of this idea before--thanks for the reminder. I definitely need to add it to my daily strategies!
I so have to try this. I need to try something!
This may be just what I've needed! After a few weeks in camp, my daughter has picked up a little more than the Sound of Music! She seems immediately sorry after her outbursts (immediately after she's lost the swimming pool play date, or movie she was going to watch, that is), but since part of it may be that she's just really tired, I'd rather give her a second chance without calling it that. Thanks!
