This is his famous painting "La Grande Odalisque," from 1814. I remember it particularly from my freshman Art History class at college; apparently, Ingres loved a long, elegant back and neck, and would often lengthen the finished work with an extra vertebra or two.
David was talking about his subject matter being beautiful. "That's not beautiful, that's ugly!" proclaimed Madison.
"Ugly? Really?" David asked.
"It's a naked woman, Dad," she replied with heavily scornful emphasis, as though that should be obvious to everyone.
David -- who, I might point out, is a man -- just blinked in response.
