Today, Ella spontaneously picked up and worked her way through reading a book, alone.
It was Things That Are Most In the World by Judi Barrett, and it came as a little paperback pamphlet in our new box of Cheerios that we opened this morning.
It was laborious, but the pictures are great, and they helped. And she did it for PLEASURE. Holy cow.
She came to me with a word:
"Mommy, what does P - O - U - N - D spell?"
"Well, we know from our Writing Road to Reading cards that the OU sound has four sounds. What are they?"
She needed a little prompting, but then once she had the four sounds, she went back and applied them to the word and figured it out. And then kept reading.
I'm trying to be conservative, so maybe it's not time for serious YIPPEES, but I'm thinking this First at least deserves a toast at dinner.
