The trip after the Pitch Slam

After I made my 3-minute pitches to prospective literary agents at the Pitch Slam at Book Expo America in New York City last week, we didn't come home. We made our way down to Washington, DC. Madison and Ella sang in the Bach Children's Chorus at the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site there, with baritone Derrick Smith.



The girls are smack in the middle, Ella on the lower level and Madison in the middle row:



And then the FDNHS had a wonderful Frederick Douglass actor do a fabulous presentation for us, including some of Douglass's speeches:



Sunday, they sang at Gettysburg, very near the spot where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address. They sang the Gettysburg Address, actually; it was the children's chorus part of David Diamond's On Sacred Ground work for adult and children's chorus.



And then we stayed at Gettysburg with our friends and took an extra day really to "do" it.
