We've been proceeding not-very-systematically through Ancient History this year. We're reading a book on the ancient Israelites and we're at the section on writing.
The book, The Ancient Israelites and their Neighbors, has a chart of the ancient Hebrew alphabet, the modern Hebrew alphabet, and the sounds made by each letter, although some are untranslatable ("sound deep in the throat"). Madison, my little code lover, thought the whole section was cool, and was intrigued at the idea of there not being any vowels in the written language. What about words like pat, pet, pit, put, and put?
They are right now working with clay and little knives to carve their own names in ancient and modern Hebrew.
